American Red Cross needs your help

Posted June 20, 2008

With violent weather slamming the United States this May and June, some of our very own communities need help from outside resources. The American Red Cross provides shelter, food and general care for thousands of people displaced by flooding, tornados, fire and more.

The recent series of disasters in the Midwest is expected to cost the American Red Cross $15 million with the potential to grow to $45 million. However, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund has been depleted. We are making a strong appeal to everyone to assist us in our relief efforts.

We will do whatever it takes to help those affected by these disasters and will not change or reduce our service delivery of sheltering, serving meals, basic first aid, mental health counseling or family reconnection. In the past six weeks we have opened 100 shelters and served over 100,000 meals. All American Red Cross disaster assistance service is free.

Please consider making a donation to your American Red Cross. We do have a fund set up specifically for the Central US Floods and Tornadoes and we always accept and encourage gifts designated for the Disaster Relief Fund. Your gift to the Disaster Relief Fund will enable the American Red Cross to respond wherever and whenever needed.

Please take a minute to read the American Red Cross Corporate Update about the natural disasters happening throughout much of the central U.S., and consider making a donation.
